Becky’s Gerbes Shopping Trip

Yesterday I spotted a few sale items I could get with coupons at Gerbes. Some of the coupon I printed off the internet from www.coupons.com and the other coupons I needed, I found in my coupon book. I have a grocery budget of $75.00 a week. I thought that a pretty frugal amount until I was talking to one of my friends who only spend $173.00 for the whole month. That is not even $50.00 a week. I am not going to change my budget amount right now, but it has challenged me to get more groceries for my money.

After work today, I stopped by Gerbes armed with just a few coupons. Sometimes I don’t feel like carrying in my whole coupon book, and just take in the coupons I plan on using. I always regret it.  It seems I always need an additional coupon or there is an unadvertised special that I need a coupon for. When I went shopping after school, I wish I had a couple more coupons, but I did not do too bad for my little shopping trip.

I bought:

3 boxes of General Mills Cereal

5 packages of Tyson grilled chicken pieces

4 packages of Green Giant Steamers

2 packages of salad mix

4 yogarts

2 onions

2 red peppers

1 cantaloup

I spent a total of $24.79. It was a savings of 52%.

Half price groceries…not too bad. A year ago when I first started couponing , my goal was to save $10 to $20 a week. Couponing has really changed the way I buy groceries and how much money I spend.

I think this week I will use part of the chicken for fajitas. That is one of the main reasons I bought the onions and the red peppers. The onions cost a little over $2 for both and each of the peppers were $1 a piece. Remember those onion seeds I planted over the weekend. I am hoping by this summer I will eating onions from my own garden and not buying them from the store.

If I have vegtables to eat from my garden, maybe then I can reduce my grocery budget.

Or maybe I can build a bigger stockpile : ).

Happy Couponing!

Becky
