When I Grow Up I Want to be a Farmer!

In an earlier post I mentioned about my teacher resolutions. Here is my second resolution.

Garden Resolution; I will try to grow more vegetables and fruit at home in my very own garden, raised garden, container garden or those Topsy tervey tomato  hanger uppers. (or is that upside down tomato hanger uppers)

No Matter.

I want to be a farmer.

I want to have a garden that I can go out and cut fresh tasting fruits and vegetables from. I love the idea of hunting for fresh eggs too. Just not sure about taking care of chickens. Chickens is something I will have to think over.

This past weekend my oldest grand girl and I pretended we were farmers and planted onion seeds. Yep! we planted little seeds in those little plastic seed starter greenhouses.

This is what I bought. Yes, I bought a green house….or at least a miniature one.

I also bought onion seeds. This variety is suppose to be very sweet and crisp. That is what the package says anyway.

So my oldest grand girl got busy filling the potting mix into each one of the little containers.

At first she was being really careful and putting just the right amount of potting mix into each pot.

She had to read the directions on the back of the box and it said to plant the seeds two inches deep and using a pencil to make the hole for the seed. So, her little bossy self, told me to go get her a pencil cause the back of the box said that was how to do it.

Grand girl proceeded to make an indention it each one.

This is when things started getting a little out of control.

Here are my onion seeds. Grand girl opening the whole packet and just dumped them out. Looks like a mice has been living on this paper if you get my drift.

Then she accidentally hit the paper and the seeds went flying everywhere.

The next container she just took the bag and started dumping the potting mix in. I decided to just walk away. It was safer.

After getting all the seeds planted, grand girl started watering the seeds.

I think she might have over watered and washed the seeds away.

Well, here is my green house! Two of them. I have them sitting in front of a warm window in the house now, waiting for the little seeds to sprout. That is, if there is any seeds left in them.

I swept the remains of the seeds and potting mix into my front flower bed. Maybe I will see onions sprout up there. : )

Just in case, I bought another package of seeds after we got done.

Just in case.

Whew, my first day of being a farmer was hard work.

I don’t know if my oldest grand girl will make a good farmer……I think farmers wear their shoes! Especially in January.

Next week I am going to plant artichokes!

I may really choke on that one!

Have you ever wanted to be a farmer? Or do just prefer to go buy your veggies?
